in character
Full name: Andromeda Vedette Tonks
Age and date of birth: April 17, 1953; 26
Sexual orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation and financial status: Healer; Andromeda does some work in St. Mungo's, tending to those that she can. She mostly works with children, but when it calls for it, she also does some minor healing for those who are injured in the war. In terms of her financial situation, it certainly is different than when she was growing up. However, she wouldn't change it for anything; she prefers to be happy and to get by on what they have then to be rich and miserable. She also finds her work quite rewarding.
Alumnus: Slytherin; 1964-1971
Bloodline: Pureblood from the Black family line.
Location: TBD with Ted player!

Family:
Mother: Druella Black (nee Rosier)
Father: Cygnus Black
Sisters: Bellatrix and Narcissa
Cousins: Sirius and Regulus

Growing up, Andromeda was the one that didn't always fit in. Despite her family's incredible prejudice, Andromeda somehow grew up free of such notions. She didn't outwardly rebel against her family's notions until she went to school; oddly enough, she was sorted into Slytherin, the family house, yet she met so many people at school that she couldn't help but begin to question the doctrine that her family was preaching. It put instant strain between her and both of her parents; she had never been particularly close with her father growing, but she had always tried to live up to her mother's standards. Suddenly, she was viewed as the rather bad child, which provided her with a considerable amount of stress. It also altered the course of her relationships with her sisters; she never seemed to be able to agree with them on anything after that, no matter how hard she tried. After meeting Ted, she had little interest in playing at her family's games and readily left. Sirius is the only member of the family that she maintains contact with, but she holds him dear to her heart now. She tries to see him as often as possible and perhaps tends to mother him a little, understanding that, as the designated heir of the Black family, his experience was much more trying than her own.

Husband: Ted Tonks
Daughter: Nymphadora Tonks
Andromeda had never regretted leaving her own family behind for Ted and his; he was simply the next step in the progression of her life, and she always knew that she loved him too much to ever give him up. In the course of the war, he is very often her strength.

She loves their daughter very dearly. She tries to be a very warm and caring mother and tries to be more involved in Dora's life than her own mother was ever involved in hers. One of her greatest fears is that she will raise Dora in the same way that her mother raised her; she is also happy that Dora was raised outside the Black family.

Personal background: Born in mid-spring, Andromeda was the second daughter of a family that would have three girls. At the time, her parents were still hopeful that they would have a son. While she wasn't necessarily unwanted, it was still challenging to be a girl in the Black family. The three of them were constantly compared even if they were all radically different; it was hard for Andromeda, who never seemed to have the sharp cleverness and ambition that Bellatrix had nor the beauty of Narcissa.

Still, she wasn't necessarily unhappy growing up. For the most part, she was unaware of the fact that the Black family was different from most wizarding families. She didn't know, for a long time, that it wasn't usual for most families to grow up in such a heavily based magical environment, to have house elves, nannies, and lessons on manners.

Andromeda was never directly a disappointment to her parents during this time. She did quite well in everything she tried and was, perhaps, a little more simpler to raise than Bellatrix or Narcissa. She was a little quieter than the both of them; while she was good at the manners or any other pursuit she tried, she never found a great passion for any of those things. She was always a little bored around the house.

She was very excited when she was able to follow Bellatrix to Hogwarts; out of the two of her sisters, she had always understood her older sister a little better than her younger. Her sister might have had a harder edge than Andromeda, but it took her a long time to see that as a bad thing.

Unsurprisingly, Andromeda was sorted into the family's house, Slytherin. She rather thought that it was because of her ambition to make something of herself, but never really questioned otherwise; on her way to school, she had never even considered being sorted into any other house.

However, Andromeda quickly found herself befriending people who were from other houses. Suddenly, there were people surrounding her other than those she had grown up with – and many of those who had been sorted into Slytherin were the children of the families that she had known practically from birth. Andromeda often found that she was more comfortable in the common rooms of other houses than her own. It caused a slight amount of friction with her parents, but she was still well- behaved and was doing little more than talking to other students, so, for the time being, they did nothing to intercede.

Andromeda did well enough in school. She was never top of her year, but she applied herself dutifully and gracefully and was always able to pull off grades and scores that she was pleased with. Andromeda particularly enjoyed Herbology and Potions. She liked how the two intersected, and she realized early on that she had an inclination towards healing. She began to study what she would need to eventually become a Healer.

The further into school Andromeda went, the more her parents did become concerned about her. She wasn't making the kind of connections they wanted. Most importantly, she wasn't interested in the kind of boys that they wanted. For most of the time Andromeda was in school, she didn't date anyone at all. It was the best she could do to appease her parents; she stayed away from anyone she was genuinely interested in, because she knew that her parents would never approve.

However, that all eventually changed when she met Ted Tonks. Eventually, she could no longer deny that she was attracted to him; she simply enjoyed being around him. She started to date him, but tried to keep it away from her sisters and her parents for as long as possible. She already knew that if she wanted to stay with him, she would have to give her own family. They would never accept a Muggleborn.

At the same time, ridiculous notions were beginning to rage across the surface of England. Andromeda was suddenly afraid of everything that her family had decided to stand for; she was afraid of what they would ask of her.

Admittedly, it was something of a hard decision. She didn't like leaving her sisters alone, but neither did she like what the family was trying to mold them into (especially in the case of her younger cousins, Sirius and Regulus.) She was overjoyed when Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor, but she could already see that things were going to be more difficult for him than they had been for her.

In any case, in the end, she left her family for Ted. He made her happy. She loved his family. They all accepted her for who she was without any question, and she didn't want to trade that all in for a family that was so solidly based on hate.

Shortly after they were married, Andromeda became pregnant with Nymphadora. For her, the situation was quite bittersweet. She was terribly excited to be starting a family with Ted, but at the same time, she was scared of the kind of mother that she would be. She was scared that her family would try to target Dora. She was scared of the effects the war would have on Dora's childhood.

Regardless of her fears, Andromeda loves Dora unequivocally and is ready to do anything she can to help protect her family.

After she left, she tried to keep in touch with Sirius, although it wasn't exactly easy. The family wanted nothing to do with her and certainly thought she was a bad influence on their already somewhat rebellious heir. When Sirius left, Andromeda did what she could to reestablish a relationship with her cousin, to try and make them into a family again. She tried to support him as much as she could. She was also incredibly glad that the Potters decided to take him.

Now, Andromeda is simply trying to get by during the war; she's trying to keep them all safe. She tries to do what she can for the Order.

Personality: Andromeda comes off as a somewhat reserved individual. This is partially because of her pureblood upbringing. However, the older she has gotten, the more and more she has shed this demeanor. Typically, she's a little quieter than most people, but that's simply because she's the sort of person that will truly listen before she decides to speak. She's a very good listening on account of this.

Much of her life is based around other people. She's quite empathetic, which, of course, partially accounts for why she couldn't stand the idea of being a part of a family that so readily hated people on a silly and old prejudice. She feels everything deeply; she loves to laugh, isn't afraid to cry when she needs to. She can also have a somewhat explosive temper as well, but she often has good control of it. When she's truly and actually angry though, it can be difficult to contain.

She doesn't exactly enjoy being around a lot of strangers; she does enjoy making friends, but hates being in crowds. It makes her feel a little claustrophobic. She would rather meet someone on an individual basis. She likes the quiet; one of her favorite moments would be spending time with Ted when she's just reading a book or having a cup of tea after a long day.

She's a huge proponent of peace; she's simply a a nurturer in many ways. She loves being a Healer and loves her daughter more than anything, so anything that's violent is the exact opposite of what she wants. Of course, she will not let that stand in the way of justice being done. She will not stand idly by and let someone be hurt just because she dislikes seeing violence. She has a very realistic way as to how the world works.

Well she might come off as somewhat soft, she can withstand a great deal. She's gone through a lot in her life already and isn't going to let life tear her down anytime soon; instead, it has made her fiercely protective of the family she does have left. In the end, there simply are some Black family traits that have remained with her.

Affiliation: Order Supporter
Stance on the war: Andromeda absolutely abhors the war; in many ways, she feels as if she grew up side by side with it. As she came of age, so did it. In this manner, the war feels incredibly personal to her. It seems to encompass many of the problems that made her run from her family. While she feels it was perhaps inevitable, she also thinks it's awful that people are dying for something so petty such as the purity of blood. She does not directly fight, but she certainly supports the members of the Order of the Phoenix; she does whatever she can, whether that means providing a safe place to stay, some medical help, or simply a warm meal. She tries to give whatever she can. She can't wait for the day that the war finally comes to an end.
